I really enjoyed this exercise because we got to get out of the classroom and work with our peers. If we were to do it again I would make larger groups so you can create even better ideas and photos.
What is the difference between getting "inspiration" from another piece and "stealing" an idea? The difference between inspiration and stealing an idea is all about perspective. If you look at it and put your own twist to someones idea you can say it is original. Is it okay to use part of an idea or part of another picture in your piece if you change something or give credit to the original source? Yes it is okay. If you change or alter a picture you can call it original. The famous campaign picture for Obama was made from someone who photo shopped it to change the colors. Why did you combine the pieces you did? I chose to combine a walrus and a boat because why not? I thought the two could make a cool painting. Why did you pick this medium? I picked to use water color because I thought it would be the easiest way to create the different shades of blue for the ocean and the sky. If you were to change ONE thing about your piece what would it be? If I were to change one thing i would've added more detail to the walrus making it look more like a boat. What is the most successful thing about your art piece? I think the most successful thing is the idea and creativity of making a walrus boat. Calligraphy artist Tolga Girgin is a turkish graphic designer and electrical engineer. His use of shadows, shading and perspective make the art seem to come out at you.
What makes their work inspiring to you? It inspires me to think outside the box and think in different ways. What about it draws you in? The creativity and 3D aspect draws me in and makes me want to try and draw it myself. The shading that almost goes unnoticed makes it pop out at you.
